Lead Role

Angela & Mrs. Chen

Potluck was my first-ever production at NYU, and it will always hold a special place in my heart! Beyond being my college debut, its story spoke to me on a deeply personal level as the child of an immigrant. The story follows a chaotic hometown holiday reunion potluck, where a group of old high school friends, now back from college, find themselves at the center of an unexpected alien encounter. As the night spirals into cosmic absurdity, they must band together and discover that the very traits they once saw as flaws may be their greatest strengths. In confronting the extraterrestrial threat, they also face the homogenization of their town, and of themselves that they once wished for. At its heart, this play is a love letter to the children of immigrants—the ones who straddle worlds, languages, and expectations.

A Note from the Playwright: "To my fellow American children of immigrants– the constellations of your lives are what makes the sky a brilliant map of possibility! If there ever was an American Dream to believe in, you are it." - Eliana Coe
