Broke People Play Festival Fall 2023

Supporting Role

Anne Lee

Workshop was a full-length developmental show that I performed in NYU's Broke People Play Festival in the Fall 2023 Semester. The play, written by Hieu Huynh, draws inspiration from her real-life experience attending a writers’ workshop created to empower writers of color, only to have it disrupted by a white man masquerading as a person of color in a misguided attempt to redeem his past as a Vietnam War veteran. The piece was both thought-provoking and deeply empowering, especially in its exploration of the Vietnamese American experience. I played a snarky, hilarious, chronically online, rage-filled twenty-something Chinese American woman who served as the comic relief in this performatively “woke” writers’ room. To this day, it remains one of my favorite roles simply because, it’s just so fun to be ridiculous!
